Mark Sarvas
reports that the PEN 2005 Literary Awards include the award for Children's Literature to
Gifts
by
Ursula LeGuin. The judges
said: "
Gifts is a novel of startling grace and mythological complexity, and it manages to be both hopeful and truthful about genetic destiny and personal will."
The winning screenplay was
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind by
Charlie Kaufman. Clearly given out of pity for it not winning a
Hugo.
